UMPO.AC.ID – The Vice Rector III of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO), Dr. Sugeng Wibowo, M.H., emphasized the importance of students maintaining the campus environment as a smoke-free zone. He delivered this message while opening an educational program themed CETAR (Cetak Generasi Sehat Tanpa Asap Rokok) on Monday (1/12).
Dr. Sugeng highlighted the growing concern over the prevalence of public content that normalizes smoking behavior. He pointed out several public figures who casually display themselves smoking on social media, a trend that may influence young people’s perceptions.
“In Muhammadiyah, the fatwa regarding smoking is very clear and firm. Yet many still try to find loopholes to make it seem permissible. This is what we need to correct,” he explained.
Furthermore, Dr. Sugeng stressed that maintaining a smoke-free campus is a shared responsibility.
“On the UMPO campus, alhamdulillah, things are relatively orderly. But just a little outside, the situation changes. That’s why students must learn and understand that smoking harms not only themselves but also the surrounding environment,” he stated.
Through this CETAR initiative, UMPO hopes students will become more aware of the dangers of smoking and actively contribute to creating a healthy, clean, and smoke-free campus culture.
