UMPO.AC.ID - The Vice Rector I of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO), Dr. Dian Suluh Kusuma Dewi, M.AP, officially opened the Grand Final of the 2025 Library Ambassador Competition, held at the UMPO Library.
The event serves as a form of appreciation for students who demonstrate strong commitment to literacy, creativity, and the development of a reading culture within the university environment. In her remarks, Dr. Dian expressed her pride in the achievements of the UMPO Library.
“Our library has been recognized as one of the most innovative work units within Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. This achievement is the result of excellent collaboration between the library team and Mr. Yolan as the head, who has always been accommodating, adaptive, and open to suggestions,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of literacy as a foundation for students’ academic abilities and character development. According to her, students who actively make use of the library tend to develop more mature ways of thinking, perspectives, and behavior.
“Literacy influences how we think, behave, and interact. It is not only about reading, but also about shaping one’s manner and inner beauty. So, make reading a habit—even if it is just one paragraph a day,” she encouraged.
Dr. Dian also shared personal experiences about her own reading habits since her youth and how building a reading culture requires consistent practice, even if it feels difficult at first.
Beyond literacy, she highlighted the importance of collaboration skills, communication, respecting differing opinions, and other soft skills that are not always gained inside the classroom.
“Skills must be trained continuously. Don’t have too much idle time, and don’t be too relaxed. Find your interests and talents, then develop them. These soft skills will be important assets for your future,” she added.
Dr. Dian also expressed her appreciation for the finalists who have shown significant growth in their abilities, particularly through their involvement in library activities.
As she concluded her speech, the Vice Rector I extended her congratulations for the successful organization of the Grand Final and conveyed her best wishes for all the finalists competing.
“Congratulations to the UMPO Library for successfully holding this event, and congratulations to all finalists. May each of you achieve the best results in your own way,” she stated before officially opening the ceremony.
