Saying Goodbye to Stressful Thesis Advising UMPO Has a Smarter Way

UMPO.AC.ID - Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) continues to show its commitment to providing adaptive and inclusive educational innovation through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Developing an Inclusive Thesis Supervision Model through the Collaboration of Technology and Education.” This event was a cross-disciplinary collaboration between the English Education Study Program (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education) and the Informatics Engineering Study Program (Faculty of Engineering), as part of a research grant funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) in 2025 under the Applied Research – Model Output scheme.

 

The FGD featured keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Ridwan Sanjaya, S.E., S.Kom., MS.IEC from Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang—renowned for his pioneering work in integrating technology into higher education. The discussion centered around the Advice-Giving Model in Thesis Supervision Using a Text Mining Approach, an innovative method aimed at making the supervision process not only data-driven but also human-centered.

 

The discussion was active and interactive, exploring how text mining technology can be used to analyze communication patterns between supervisors and students during the thesis supervision process. This enables the development of a more adaptive supervision model tailored to the diverse needs and characteristics of students.

 

The research team is led by Dr. Elok Putri Nimasari, M.Pd, and includes Dr. Bambang Harmanto, M.Pd, and Adi Fajaryanto Cobantoro, S.Kom., M.Kom. Uniquely, this research also involves students from both study programs, making it a true example of collaborative knowledge development between lecturers and students rooted in real-world practice.

 

Through this initiative, UMPO not only addresses the challenges of learning in the digital era but also provides concrete solutions for higher education that is more inclusive, individualized, and grounded in humanistic values.
