UMPO.AC.ID - The Mathematics Education Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo (UMPO) collaborated with the Mathematics Department of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at State University of Malang (UM Malang), and the Ponorogo High School Mathematics Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP) to organize a Mathematics Competition for high school students across Ponorogo and a Mathematics Workshop for high school teachers. This event serves as a strategic platform to sharpen students' academic potential while enhancing teachers' competencies in developing innovative mathematics learning.
The high school level Mathematics Competition was attended by hundreds of students from various schools in Ponorogo. Participants worked on challenging problems that tested their conceptual understanding, logical sharpness, and problem-solving skills. Through this event, students not only competed academically but were also trained to think critically, creatively, and confidently.
Meanwhile, the Mathematics Workshop for teachers focused on the implementation of the GeoGebra application in teaching. This application enables teachers to visualize mathematical concepts more interactively, making learning engaging and easier for students to understand. The workshop is expected to inspire teachers to introduce innovative teaching methods relevant to technological advancements.
In his speech, the Dean of FKIP UMPO emphasized that this collaboration is a concrete step to improve the quality of national education. The synergy between universities and local teacher communities is a joint effort to strengthen the quality of education, particularly in the field of mathematics.
With full support from UMPO, UGM, UM Malang, and the Ponorogo High School Mathematics MGMP, this event serves as an example of productive collaboration in strengthening the education ecosystem while preparing a superior, critical, and adaptive young generation to face global challenges.
