UMPO.AC.ID - Lecturers from the Faculty of Health Sciences at Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (FIK UMPO) organized a community service activity at the Muhammadiyah Children Center (MCC) LKSA Sulaiman Dahlan Ponorogo on September 20, 2025.
The training was attended by the management, caregivers, and foster children of MCC LKSA Sulaiman Dahlan Ponorogo. The resource persons came from the community service team, including Filia Icha Sukamto, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Heri Ernawati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Lina Ema Purwanti, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., as well as students from the DIII and S1 Nursing Programs at FIK UMPO, each with expertise in emergency care, maternal emergencies, and medical-surgical nursing.
The head of the community service team, Filia Icha Sukamto, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., explained that this training activity is part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which is an obligation for lecturers. This community service activity carried the theme "Implementation of JASTA in Preventing Mental Health Emergencies in Adolescents," delivered to the foster children and santri at MCC.
In her speech, Filia expressed her hope that this education would benefit both the foster children and the staff in addressing adolescent mental health issues.
“We hope that this educational activity using JASTA (a mental health booklet for adolescents) can provide benefits in managing mental health emergencies in adolescents. Currently, mental health problems such as anxiety disorders, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and behavioral disorders are on the rise and significantly impact children’s growth and development. With this understanding, foster children can prevent mental health emergencies around them, allowing for early intervention and reducing the risk of more serious complications,” she said.
Filia also expressed her hope that MCC LKSA Sulaiman Dahlan will continue to be a community service partner of FIK UMPO in the future and provide input regarding themes that are more needed for managing the health of foster children.
The head of MCC LKSA Sulaiman Dahlan stated, “Besides religious knowledge, technology, and entrepreneurship, our foster children also greatly need health and safety education. We are grateful to all parties from Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. We hope that in the future, not only the Faculty of Health Sciences but also other faculties can share their knowledge and experience at our institution,” he said during the opening of the event.
This event was warmly welcomed and received positive responses from the entire Sulaiman Dahlan family. Knowledge about safety for foster children in social care institutions is crucial to prevent incidents that could endanger both thechildren and the staff.
