The Legacy of Jiwo Simo Ludro UMPOs Grand Cultural Masterpiece Resonates at Grebeg Suro Ponorogo

UMPO.AC.ID  -  From the Land of Reog, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo (UMPO) once again makes history by presenting an extraordinary cultural masterpiece. This year, UMPO has been granted a great honor to open the Grebeg Suro 2025 celebration, the largest and most prestigious cultural festival in Ponorogo Regency.

UMPO has been entrusted to lead the Opening Exhibition of Grebeg Suro 2025, which will take place on Tuesday, June 17, at 7:00 PM. This remarkable honor reflects the community’s and local government’s trust in UMPO as a pioneer in preserving local culture. Carrying the theme "Warisan Jiwo Simo Ludro" (The Legacy of Simo Ludro’s Soul), UMPO will present a colossal performance that unites the power of traditional dance, gamelan music, and cultural theatrics on a grand stage at Alon-Alon Ponorogo.

This masterpiece involves 80 principal dancers who will portray key characters in the story, accompanied by 20 gamelan musicians who will enrich every step and movement with the distinctive melodies of Ponorogo’s traditional music. Additionally, 30 supporting dancers will enhance the visual and dramatic elements on stage. The performance is further elevated by the direct participation of UMPO’s leadership, from the rector and deans to the students, creating a powerful symbol of collaboration and unity within the UMPO community.

"Warisan Jiwo Simo Ludro" is more than just a performance; it is a meaningful cultural tribute that carries a profound story of spiritual journeys, the strength of character, and the legacy of the soul—elements deeply embedded in the identity of Ponorogo society.
