UMPO.AC.ID – Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) once again made a proud achievement at the national level. Several students from UMPO’s student boarding school, Pesma Al-Manar, successfully won various competitions organized by the Association of Pesma Managers of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Universities throughout Indonesia in 2025.
UMPO’s Vice Rector III, Dr. Sugeng Wibowo, M.H., expressed his highest appreciation to the students who brought pride to the university. He stated that this achievement is an indicator of Pesma's success in student development, particularly in strengthening Islamic values such as Qur’an recitation skills and tahsin proficiency.
“We are truly grateful, as this competition also serves as a benchmark for the effectiveness of Pesma’s development programs. Hopefully, this will continue to grow and lead to even more achievements in the future,” said Dr. Sugeng.
He further emphasized the vital role of Pesma in shaping the profile of UMPO students, who are expected to excel not only academically but also in mastering science and technology, embodying the values of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah, and developing artistic talents.
“Pesma plays a key role in internalizing these values. Therefore, we hope it will continue to optimize and expand its programs,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of Pesma Al-Manar UMPO, Ustaz Nurul Abidin, Lc., M.Ed., explained that in this year’s national-level competition held by Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP Muhammadiyah), Pesma Al-Manar sent 10 participants to compete in various categories.
“Alhamdulillah, out of a total of 348 participants from across the country, we secured four winning titles. These include Qur’an recitation (tartil) and public speaking in Indonesian—skills that are nurtured through Pesma’s structured programs,” he explained.
He added that this accomplishment serves as motivation for Pesma Al-Manar to continue improving the quality of its development programs, especially in Qur’anic literacy and students’ soft skills.
“In the future, we aim to enhance our efforts so that we can achieve even greater results in the next competition cycle,” he concluded.
