UMPO.AC.ID – Hundreds of students from elementary to senior high school levels filled the campus area of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) over the weekend. They took part in the prestigious Delta Mathematics Olympiad Competition (DMOP) XI, organized by the Student Association of Mathematics Education Study Program (HMPS DELTA), on Saturday–Sunday (April 11–12, 2026).
The annual event, now entering its second decade, attracted around 250 participants from various schools across the Madiun Residency area. DMOP XI serves as a strategic platform to sharpen numeracy literacy skills while fostering young generations’ interest in mathematics.
This year’s competition introduced a special innovation, particularly for the elementary school category. The committee divided the elementary level into three grade-based divisions to ensure a fairer competition that aligns with each age group’s curriculum portion: Grade A for 1st–2nd graders, Grade B for 3rd–4th graders, and Grade C for 5th–6th graders.
In addition to the elementary level, the competition was also joined by junior and senior high school students who came with great enthusiasm to compete for regional championship titles.
Interestingly, DMOP XI was not solely focused on student competition. On the second day, Sunday (April 12), the committee also held a Parenting Seminar specifically designed for parents and accompanying teachers. This agenda aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the important role parents play in supporting children’s intellectual growth without pressure.
“We want to create a holistic educational ecosystem. While the children are competing, parents and teachers are equipped with insights through the parenting seminar so they can become enjoyable learning companions both at home and at school,” said a committee representative during the event.
The chief organizer emphasized that DMOP XI is not merely about finding winners, but also represents the consistent commitment of HMPS Mathematics Education DELTA in supporting the improvement of education quality in Indonesia, especially in the western part of East Java.
With the grade-based system at the elementary level, the committee hopes children will become more confident in seeing mathematics as a subject that can be learned gradually according to their developmental stage.
During the two-day event, the UMPO campus transformed into a hub of logical strategy and intellectual competition. Participants were not only tested through written questions, but were also invited to experience the religious and innovative academic atmosphere of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.
The success of DMOP XI is expected to produce outstanding young talents who will one day bring pride to the region at national and even international mathematics olympiads.
