UMPO.AC.ID - The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) held the 2025 Patent Workshop under the theme “From Ideas to Exclusive Rights: Strategies to Transform Innovation into Patents” on Thursday (12/6). The event featured Sofyan Arif, S.H., M.Kn., an expert in intellectual property law, as the main speaker.
This workshop marked a strategic step by UMPO to encourage researchers and academics to convert their research and innovations into formally recognized and beneficial patents.
UMPO Rector Dr. Rido Kurnianto, M.Ag., in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of the event in enhancing the university’s academic quality and real-world impact.
"Today is an important moment to improve our scientific quality. I believe we already have many research and community service outcomes that could be patented, but progress is often stalled due to a lack of expert guidance," said Dr. Rido.
He expressed hope that expert involvement, such as that of Sofyan Arif, would help pave the way for more patents originating from UMPO.
"Once these innovations are realized as patents, the university’s impact will become more visible. We are committed to ensuring that our research outcomes can reach industry and, more importantly, benefit society," he added.
Dr. Rido further stated that patents are not merely a matter of prestige but a concrete step in making UMPO a university that brings real benefit and blessing.
"A patent is a message of usefulness. When we achieve this, the value and impact of our university become tangible,"* he concluded.
The workshop was attended by lecturers and researchers from various faculties within UMPO and served as part of LPPM’s broader commitment to promoting innovation and real contributions to society through academic research
