UMPO.AC.ID - Hundreds of students and academic members of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) participated in a public lecture titled "Restorative Justice as a New Paradigm in Law Enforcement in Indonesia", held on Monday (7/7) at the Expotorium Building, UMPO.
It was more than just an ordinary lecture. It became a learning space that offered a fresh perspective—inviting participants to think of law not merely as a matter of gavels and verdicts, but as a room for dialogue and healing. Many attendees took notes, asked questions, or quietly reflected. Perhaps the term restorative justice still felt unfamiliar, but it sparked genuine curiosity.
The event featured a national-level speaker, Prof. Mia Amiati, S.H., M.H., CMA., CSSL., currently serving as Independent Commissioner of Bank Mandiri Central. In her lecture, Prof. Mia elaborated on Restorative Justice as an alternative legal approach—one that emphasizes restoration and justice for all parties involved, rather than focusing solely on punishment.
This public lecture was held as part of UMPO’s efforts to provide its students and academic community with a new understanding of a more humanistic and solution-oriented legal paradigm. The approach is seen as highly relevant within the evolving landscape of law enforcement in Indonesia.
After the session, several participants were seen engaging in small discussions, pondering how such a paradigm could be applied in real-life situations. A slow but growing awareness began to take root—that the law is not only about right and wrong, but also about listening and restoring.
