UMPO.AC.ID - Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) held a public lecture titled “Higher Education and Deep Learning: Towards the Reciprocity of Knowledge” on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, with an offline session at the 4th Floor Auditorium of the Rectorate Building and an online session via Zoom. The total number of participants reached 750, consisting of 250 offline attendees and 500 online participants.
The lecture featured two keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Siswanto Masruri, M.A. from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta and Prof. Dr. Bermawi Munthe, M.A. from UIN Yogyakarta.
In his remarks, UMPO Vice Rector II, Dr. Sugeng Wibowo, M.H., emphasized the importance of developing an adaptive and serious educational approach, especially within Muhammadiyah institutions.
“Today, discussions on philosophy and various educational approaches are very important. However, in general, students still seem overwhelmed. Current learning models need to be re-evaluated. We cannot rely solely on submitting assignments or minimal evaluations. This clearly impacts the depth and quality of knowledge,” he stated.
He also noted that Muhammadiyah educational institutions—ranging from elementary to higher education—require a more contextual and substantial learning model.
“Starting today, Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo is initiating a new model or at least a new discourse for knowledge development. We hope this will bring a real impact, especially for Muhammadiyah educational institutions,” he added.
This public lecture is expected to be the starting point for the development of innovative educational models that prioritize depth of knowledge and philosophical reflection in higher education.
